We loveee a photoshoot turned surprise proposal!
Helping plan a surprise proposal is honestly one of the best perks of my job! When Noah reached out, I was ecstatic to be a part of this special day for them! They recently had a baby together and were looking to get some updated family photos but Noah used it as the perfect opportunity to pop the question. Anai was unsupecting the entire time which made for the perfect surprised reaction when Noah got down on one knee during their session. So, how did we pull it off?
Planning a surprise proposal is tricky enough, let alone getting it photographed without giving any hints. Luckily, working with a wedding/engagement pro (like me!) helps the process go so much smoother. There are a couple ways to pull this type of photoshoot off and thankfully Noah and Anai were in the perfect season of transition to pull of what I call the “Keep it Casual” method. The Keep it Casual method simply means that you schedule a seemingly regular photoshoot, like right after the birth of a baby in Noah and Anai’s case, to keep your future fiance clueless. This method easily flies under the radar after a big life change, near an anniversary, or near a holiday, when your girlfriend wouldn’t question why you scheduled a photoshoot.
The next step to pulling a secret proposal photoshoot off is the coordination. Noah and I chatted on the phone a couple of times prior to their session. We talked through the timeline of the session, which pose I would position them in, and the verbal cue I would give him to signal that he could drop to a knee while I distracted Anai. Having a pre-determined plan helps you to feel less nervous, keeps your future fiance unsuspecting, and allows your photographer to capture the perfect moment without a hitch.
So, without further ado, take a peek at the magic we created during their family session and the moment she said YES!
Are you ready for it?
